Sital Mohanty

Assistant Professor

Sital Mohanty is M.A. (University of Hyderabad), M.Phil. (Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi), Ph.D. (Jamia Millia Islamia) is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, School of Social, Financial & Human Sciences, KIIT University. Dr. Mohanty was previously DAE Post-Doctoral Fellow (2020-23) at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and a Visiting Scholar at the Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS), Chennai. Prior to these, she taught (2016-18) at the Department of Sociology and Women’s Studies & Research Centre (WSRC), Banasthali University, Rajasthan. She has previously worked in the capacities of Consultant and Project Assistant at the National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), New Delhi; Programmer at the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA), Government of India, New Delhi; Project Fellow to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. During her stint (2009-10) at MoMA, she has worked in the ‘Prime Minister’s New 15 Point Programme’ pertaining to assessment of various minorities related multi-sectoral development issues; planning, monitoring, and evaluation of existing schemes of minorities. Dr. Mohanty is the recipient of: ICSSR Doctoral Fellowship (2011-13), New Delhi. She has been actively involved in research after she completed the PhD degree as indicated by her research publications in high impact & SCOPUS-indexed journals including Journal of Human Values, Social Change, Sociological Bulletin, The Eastern Anthropologist, Social Science Gazetteer among others and several edited volumes including Routledge (Forthcoming) and Mittal. She has also demonstrated expertise through various national and international conferences and seminars that ensures her contribution to the discipline. She has so far guided four (4) PG Diploma Dissertations. She has extended consultancies to Rajiv Gandhi Central University of Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha State Open University. Her areas of interest include sociology of health, gender studies, knowledge systems, technology and human values. Dr. Mohanty has been a Life Member of Indian Sociological Society and Member of International Sociological Association. While working at Banasthali University, Rajasthan she was the Member (2017-18) of Research Advisory Committee (RAC).
